One of the fishing tools fishing community known as fish gimmickry is Rumpon. This tool is composed of several components, such as rafts, attractor, and the Rumpon rope ballast. According Monintja (1993 Sudirman and Mallawa in 2004), the use of Rumpon in Indonesia has traditionally been carried out mainly fishermen from Mamuju and East Java, while the use of Rumpon in modern Beru was started in 1980 by the Research Institute of Marine Fisheries.
Rumpon is a shelter for pelagic fish. Therefore,
Rumpon are usually installed in a relatively deep sea. Installation
of Rumpon are meant to attract schools of fish that gather around Rumpon so
easy to catch fish. Installation
of Rumpon fishing operations is intended to be more effective and efficient
because it is no longer hunt fish (by following ruayanya), but simply do
fishing around the Rumpon. In
eastern Indonesia are two types of Rumpon that Rumpon shallow marine and deep
sea Rumpon. Rumpon
are placed on the shallow sea depth of no more than 50 meters. In
the waters of the Gulf of Bone Rumpon used is Rumpon are placed at a depth of
over 100 meters. Rumpon
such as rafts and larger than the shallow sea Rumpon.
Construction Rumpon used as a relatively
simple capture tool consisting of floats, weights, attractors (decoy), and
rigging. In
general, construction Rumpon used by pole and line fishing are:
1.
Raft
Used rafts made of bamboo measuring 1 x 6 meter is composed of twelve that float on water. At the top of the raft is placed at the bottom of the pole markers are useful as a place to hang attractor (decoy). The raft had long wear durability suitable durability bamboo species used. Raft was placed on the surface of the water and nature persists because given ballast of stone or cement mixture.
2. Rope and ballast
Ballast used rope made from polyethilen with number 700. In the moss along the rope as long usage so it would act as a decoy fish. Long rope about 1.5 times the weight of the water depth. At the end of the rope laid ballast to maintain the position of Rumpon so not much changed. The ballast is made of mountain stone and concrete mix.
3. Attractor
Attractor serves as an attraction for the fish to eat as well as a refuge for small fish. Attractor is made of palm leaves sebagaimanan fishermen generally used in other areas.
4. Marking pole
Tagging pole is pole mounted on top of Rumpon to facilitate the search process Rumpon, it also serves as a pole sign the Rumpon for passing boats. The pole is made of bamboo which has a construction like clothesline. This pole is usually paired on palm leaves and the owner's name written Rumpon.
